Point of view
Whose eyes and mind the story is told through: first person, second, third limited, third omniscient, or rotating.
Point of view is the answer to "whose experience is the narration?". The standard set: first person (a character narrates as "I"); second person ("you", rare, immersive, ambiguous); third limited (restricted to one character's interiority per scene); third omniscient (a consistent all-knowing narrator who can enter any mind and comment from above it); and multiple or rotating POV (viewpoint characters alternate by chapter or scene break, usually marked).
Two adjacent distinctions matter for craft. Deep limited POV narrows third limited further until narration is fully colored by the character's diction. And an unmarked mid-scene jump between minds is head-hopping, a slip; the same movement, made deliberately by a consistent narrator, is omniscience.
